Job Summary
The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking candidates for a full-time, non-tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve in the Division of Neonatology.
The position will provide clinical care for the neonatal patient population in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit setting. Clinical care would include but is not limited to the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of disorders, consultations, acute care, ordering and interpreting lab results, developing treatment plans, and patient/family education. The position will maintain and ensure that relevant patient records are properly updated, and share weekday, weekend, and holiday emergent/after-hours call coverage.
Comprehensive services are provided in the 154 bed Children's Hospital of Georgia with the region's only Level IV NICU. We have a comprehensive group of pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists serving children and families from across Georgia and we are a key subspecialty referral center for the southeast. The Children's Hospital of Georgia is part of the Wellstar at the Medical College of Georgia which includes a 478-bed medical center, a Medical Office Building with more than 80 outpatient practice sites in one convenient setting, and a Critical Care Center housing a 13-county regional trauma center.
Successful candidates will have a proven history of excellent clinical skills, involvement with clinical research, and a strong desire to be involved with resident teaching. Additionally, candidates should have an MD/DO degree and be board certified/eligible in Neonatology. Educational responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing mentorship, clinical supervision, and consultation to residents/medical students/staff at AU; developing a more in-depth educational experience for trainees in neonatal medicine; providing training to residents/medical students/staff at AU/AUMC in neonatal medicine care through didactics.
Responsibilities
Patient Care/Service:
- Become board certified in Neonatology by year three (3).
- Provide high-quality, comprehensive care in Neonatology in an effort to improve quality, safety and patient experience.
- Be clinically productive through the provision of clinical services at MCG's partner Academic Medical Center.
- Participate in on-call duties with other faculty.
- Meet all metrics associated with Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE). This includes but is not limited to: attendance at quality meetings (e.g., M&M, Quality Unit Council, etc.), proper management of documentation, completion of all online compliance training modules, attendance at faculty meetings, etc.
- Become increasingly productive through the provision of clinical services in Neonatology. The expectation is that 100% of your clinical FTE (90%) will be providing services through MCG's partner Academic Medical Center.
- Meet and maintain wRVU productivity targets as set forth by the department chair and MCG Dean's Office through clinical services provided. Current target equates to 65th percentile for neonatology as established by the Vizient AAMC Clinical Practice Solutions Center (CPSC), multiplied by clinical FTE. Productivity targets are subject to change.
- Support departmental efforts in promoting good professional relationships with MCG physicians and physicians outside of MCG (referring physicians in community, region and state).
- Provide prompt feedback to referring physicians.
Teaching/Instruction:
- Provide education and training to residents, medical students and staff in pediatrics which includes but is not limited to clinical supervision, consultation and didactics.
- Achieve and maintain teaching evaluation scores at or above the department mean.
- Attend 50% or more weekly pediatric Grand Rounds presentations and monthly faculty meetings.
Required Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited medical school/university or equivalent. Board certified/board eligible in Neonatology.
Must have or be eligible for a state of Georgia medical license, Federal DEA, PALS/CPR certified.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Must have excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and people management skills.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
