Description:
The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the newly established Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine invites applications for a Clinical Faculty position in the field of Psychiatry. We are recruiting new faculty who have achieved excellence in education, teaching, and research and are prepared to contribute to our bold vision.
This is an open-rank, clinical, non-tenure track faculty position. Salary and rank commensurate with experience.
New faculty are expected to contribute to the educational, clinical and research missions of the department and college of medicine.
Educational/Research/Services Mission
• Teach in the four-week Behavioral Medicine Course consisting of didactic and problem-based learning sessions.
• Teach in the problem-based learning sessions in the Physicians, Patients and Populations • Course and Longitudinal Clinical Experiences.
• Provide clinical teaching and supervision of multiple trainees in medicine.
• Co-develop or lead advanced elective experiences.
• Serve on UHCOM and UH Committees.
• Publish scholarly research and lead and/or collaborate on grant applications.
Direct Patient Care
• Evaluate, treat, and consult on the behavioral health care of patients in UHCOM Family Care Center (FCC).
• Supervise students on rotation at the FCC.
• Collaborate with other medical and behavioral health providers.
• Participate in community outreach activities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
• MD, DO
• Board Certified Psychiatrist licensed or license eligible to practice in the State of Texas.
• Psychiatrist needs to have expertise in treating a broad range of behavioral health problems for children, adolescents, and adults and working in an integrated health care environment.
• Knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning, including active and applied learning modalities.
• Familiarity with accreditation standards for medical education (e.g., LCME, ACGME).
• Strong analytical skills and ability to used data to inform decision-making.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities and abilities to work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
• Research experience and publications in relevant specialty area.
Preferred Qualifications
• Track record of scholarly contributions to the field of medical education.
• Experience in mentoring medical students throughout medical school curriculum.
• Experience in mentoring medical students in research and scholarly activity.

Applicants must have a PhD and/or MD/DO from an accredited institution. Official transcripts are required for faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate(s). Physician applicants must possess an unrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in their specialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must be obtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Provost. All positions within the University of Houston System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Physician applicants are required to provide documentation of current licensure and board certification as part of their application materials.
