Job Summary

Job Id 266414. Position # 20008772. The Medical College of Georgia Department of Surgery at Augusta University is seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor who will serve as a Colorectal Surgeon. The faculty member will practice the full range of endoscopic and surgical techniques for treating gastrointestinal tract (GI) tract. The qualified applicant can treat patients non-surgically (by endoscopy), with minimally invasive surgery or with open surgery. This individual will be in a non-tenured position.

Responsibilities

  • Develop clinical practice in the field of Colorectal Surgery.
  • Enhance the Colorectal Surgery Program, increase clinic visits and increase surgical volumes related to colorectal cancer, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), benign colorectal and anorectal disease.
  • Work with colleagues in medical oncology and radiation oncology, to re-establish the multi-disciplinary Colorectal Oncology Program and enhance the endeavors of the program on a national level.
  • Participate in the call schedule with the Divisions of Surgical Oncology and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
  • Teach and educate general surgery residents about colorectal surgery.

Required Qualifications

MD/DO degree; candidates should be board eligible in general surgery and colon and rectal surgery by the American Board of Colorectal Surgery, with additional fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery; 5 years of general surgery residency and an additional year of colorectal fellowship. Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training. Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience. Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be: Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation; Evidence of ability as a teacher; Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned; Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and, Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time. Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
