The Department of Pediatric Dentistry in the Dental College of Georgia (DCG) at Augusta University invites applications for a clinical track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor who will also hold an administrative post of Director of the Predoctoral Clinical and Didactic program in pediatric dentistry. This is a non-tenure track position.
The successful candidate will possess a passion for teaching, leadership and team-building skills, and experience with, and enthusiasm for, working with dental students and residents in our outpatient clinics. Major teaching responsibilities include providing didactic and clinical instruction for both predoctoral students (majority) and postdoctoral students, student counseling, and research mentoring, as well as support of evidence-based learning and clinical care. Additionally, participation in hospital on-call service and various interactions with postdoctoral and predoctoral students are expected. Other responsibilities include participation in committees at the department, school, and university levels, as well as the production of scholarship.
Opportunities for extramural dental private practice are available.
Responsibilities
Teaching - 65%
Primary responsibilities include direction of and teaching in all pre-clinical and clinical courses in pediatric dentistry. Additional teaching responsibilities include support of clinical and didactic courses in the Postgraduate Training program in Pediatric Dentistry.
Research/Scholarship - 15%
Publication of at least one peer reviewed paper a year, or a .75 depending on effort and rank.
Service - 5%
Service on at least one intramural DCG committee and attendance of the AAPD meetings with service on the pre-doctoral committee.
Clinical/Patient Care - 15%
Demonstrate dignity and respect for patient and family knowledge, values, beliefs, and cultural background in the planning and delivery of care. Participate in care of ambulatory pediatric and special needs patients through the Dental Practice Group as well as in the OR at Children's Hospital of Georgia and the Ambulatory Surgical Center within the DCG.
Required Qualifications
DDS/DMD from a CODA accredited United States or Canadian dental school
Completion of a CODA accredited Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry
Board eligible or certified by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry
Unrestricted license to practice dentistry from the Georgia Board of Dentistry (Licensure by Credentialing is an option)
Sedation permit from the Georgia Board of Dentistry
Abilities: Inter-professional collaboration; Curriculum organization, implementation, assessment; Student mentoring, assessment; Interest and participation in scholarly activity; Service.
Knowledge: All aspects of clinical dentistry related to Restorative Sciences in support learning, scholarship, patient care, service.
Skills: All aspects of clinical dentistry. All relevant organization and communication skills as a oral health clinician, educator, and scholar in support of Restorative Sciences and adjunctive areas.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
Evidence of ability as a teacher;
Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
Expertise in advanced technologies, digital workflow, including dental implants
PALS certification.
The ideal candidate will have significant clinical experience and prior experience in dental education.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
