The Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy (CBA), Medical College of Georgia (MCG) at Augusta University (AU) is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor in Vision Research. CBA is expanding its research program and is seeking candidates with expertise in visual system research. Ideally, the successful candidate's research program will investigate eye-related diseases that complement existing strengths in vision research within the institution. The successful candidate will become a member of the James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute, consisting of basic scientists and clinicians investigating a wide range of devastating blinding disorders. Augusta University, home to the only research-oriented, state supported medical school in Georgia, offers an outstanding interdisciplinary environment. The research infrastructure includes a NEI Center Core Grant for Vision Research (P30) plus state-of-the-art core facilities including Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, Cell Imaging, Flow & Mass Cytometry, Immune Monitoring, Integrated Genomics, Small Animal Imaging, Electron Microscopy/Histology, and a biorepository. The position offers a nationally competitive start-up package. Candidates will be expected to participate in teaching and service. This position is considered to be on tenure track.
Responsibilities
- Teach in the Medical College of Georgia and/or the School of Graduate Studies and mentor graduate students.
- Establish vigorous independent extramurally funded research program/s to complement research strengths and goals of DNRM and the University.
- Participate on various committees and provide public and professional service to the community and the department/college/University/USG.
Required Qualifications
A doctoral degree in Medicine or PhD in Biological Sciences.
Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate a strong potential for research including obtaining extramural funding. Candidates at the Associate Professor and Professor level must possess external funding at the NIH R01 level and demonstrate potential for its continuation.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member with appropriate post graduate training.
Associate Professor- Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor- Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class.
