Brief Description of DI:

The Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI) was founded in Qatar in 2015 as a Doha-based independent institution of higher education. The Institute offers MA and PhD programs in two schools: the School of Social Sciences and Humanities and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy. The Institute adopts a student-centred approach to learning, promotes interdisciplinary research, and uses Arabic as the primary language of instruction, with fluency in English a requirement. DI aims to graduate researchers and practitioners who can advance knowledge and better the human condition, while upholding the highest scientific, professional, and ethical standards. It provides advanced leadership-focused training that emphasizes the competencies necessary to satisfy the region's needs in sustainable development and intellectual advancement. The Institute upholds the guiding principles of academic freedom and emphasizes the values of integrity and professionalism.

Brief Description of Program:

The Sociology and Anthropology Program aims to provide graduate level students with theoretical, research, and methodological training in the fields of sociology and anthropology that span multiple critical schools of thought and their developments in these fields. The Program focuses on relationships between local Arab and global contexts, providing students with the opportunity to engage each separately and comparatively. This training allows students to produce knowledge about contemporary Arab social issues and the world with a universal perspective. The program enables students to develop qualitative and quantitative skills in sociological and anthropological analyses that will prepare students for doctoral level studies through an emphasis on critical theoretical thought and advanced research and academic writing skills. Their training will prepare them for employment in a variety of fields and disciplines, including development and politics.

Job Summary:

We are seeking to appoint an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Quantitative Sociology. Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong, proven pedagogical and research skills in quantitative and empirical methods. All areas of sociological research will be considered (e.g., sociology of knowledge, digital sociology, social movements, social stratification, AI and its technologies, inequality, labor markets, migration, urban sociology, sociology of consumption, education, and religion).The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in Sociology and has a research record relevant to rank, with publications in leading sociological journals and/or with highly regarded academic publishers. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake research of the highest standard, contribute to high-quality teaching, and participate in academic administration.

Responsibilities will include supervising MA and PhD students, delivering a high-quality educational experience that enhances students' employability and academic standing, and actively engaging with the Program's research agenda. The appointee will also be expected to apply for research grants, contribute to teaching excellence, and strengthen the visibility of the Program and Institute both regionally and internationally.

The DI recognizes the importance of English for research and teaching. However, proficiency in the Arabic language is essential and a condition for recruitment.

The post will begin in August 2026. The search will continue until a successful candidate is selected for the post.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver graduate level courses.
  2. Supervise master's and doctorate students in the program while actively engaging in the academic life of DI.
  3. Publish research in specialized and related fields in leading refereed / peer reviewed journals and/or reputable academic publishing houses.
  4. Undertake administrative responsibilities and contribute to the needs of the program, school, institute, and community
  5. Participate in various committees at the program, school, and institute levels.

Qualifications, Experiences and Skills:

Applicants must:

  1. Hold a doctorate degree in the field of sociology.
  2. Demonstrate a track record of scientific research and publications in their field of specialization and related areas in international peer-reviewed journals that align with their academic rank.
  3. Possess competence and experience in graduate-level teaching.
  4. Exhibit proficiency in the Arabic language.
  5. Be capable of attracting external support and funding for research.
  6. Have the potential to build a global reputation in specialized research fields.

  2. A copy of the PhD degree.

  4. Teaching statement expounding the philosophy of education and supervision.
  5. Supporting documents for teaching experience (e.g., course descriptions and student evaluations) if the candidate holds a teaching position.
  6. Sample of publication or research in progress.
  7. Research statement and/or current research plan.
