The primary responsibilities of this position are teaching and service with substantial opportunities for research and scholarship if desired. Additionally, this individual must have a passion for education and a commitment to student success. Academic rank is commensurate with experience. Utilizing state of the art classrooms, laboratories, and teaching technology with both live animals and simulation models, this faculty member will be asked to adopt an integrated educational approach to provide students with a strong foundation of cognitive, clinical, and professional competencies, in preparation for entry into the partially distributive model of clinical training in the fourth year. The PCVM will have a fully staffed large animal ambulatory service. The production animal faculty will be a key member in developing our comprehensive large animal curriculum. The production animal medicine faculty will work closely with the large animal ambulatory service clinicians to integrate classroom concepts that translate seamlessly into real world experiences. The production animal medicine faculty is encouraged to be a part of the ambulatory service team by having a small percentage of their effort in field service (to be discussed with the department chair).
