Open Rank Position in Experimental High Energy Physics (tenure-track/tenured)
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Tufts University invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure-stream professorship position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the field of experimental High-Energy Physics (HEP) at the Energy Frontier. The successful candidate will join the Tufts ATLAS group and assume teaching duties and service, with a target start date of September 1, 2026. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, mentoring, and community development. The department has strong research programs in High Energy Physics, condensed matter physics, cosmology, quantum information, astrophysics, and physics education research. The HEP group conducts active research in LHC collider and accelerator-based neutrino programs, providing opportunities for undergraduates and graduate students. Current activities include maintenance and development of the muon end-cap alignment system, QCD precision measurements, searches for dark matter, and AI algorithms for data analysis.
To qualify, candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental High Energy Physics at the Energy Frontier with strong experience in analyzing Large Hadron Collider data. The candidate is expected to generate research grants, supervise graduate and undergraduate thesis research, and teach undergraduate and graduate physics courses with a commitment to evidence-informed teaching. For tenured positions, prior teaching experience is essential.
Applications should include a cover letter, curriculum vitae with publications, research plan, statement of teaching and mentoring philosophy, and at least three confidential letters of reference. Submit via apply.interfolio.com/174045. For full consideration, apply by November 15, 2025. Contact Elizabeth Hammond at Elizabeth.Hammond@tufts.edu for questions.
