Job Summary
Tech AI at the Georgia Institute of Technology is seeking a highly accomplished Research Scientist with a PhD in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a related field and at least 10 years of applied industry experience. This role is ideal for a collaborative problem solver who enjoys developing cutting-edge AI solutions, working across diverse sectors, and translating innovative research into real-world impact.
As a Research Scientist on the Tech AI team, you will sit at the intersection of applied research and real-world delivery. You will play a major role in the development and application of advanced AI and machine learning methods to address high-impact challenges across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, supply chain and logistics, operations, financial services, healthcare, energy, and national security. Working closely with Research Software Engineers (RSEs), faculty, students, industry partners, and government stakeholders, you will help transform promising research into robust, scalable, production-ready systems.
Beyond technical leadership, you will contribute to sponsored research initiatives, competitive grant proposals, business development efforts, and strategic partnerships that expand Georgia Tech's AI impact. You will engage clients and collaborators, communicate complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and help shape the future pipeline of AI opportunities. This position is ideal for a scientist who is equally energized by advancing state-of-the-art AI research and seeing that work successfully deployed to solve meaningful real-world problems.

Responsibilities
- Apply advanced AI/ML methods to real world challenges in multiple industries
- Conduct assessments, develop solution concepts, and support implementation planning
- Contribute to proposal writing, including technical narratives and research framing
- Deliver public presentations and workshops
- Translate complex technical ideas into accessible insights for varied audiences
- Work with Research Software Engineers to ensure translation of research into production ready solutions

Research Scientist I
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
Research Scientist II
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline and three (3) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline and five (5) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
- A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
Senior Research Scientist
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline and seven (7) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of that degree, or
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline and nine (9) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree, or
- A Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline, and four (4) years of relevant full-time experience after completion of a Bachelor's degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in AI, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
- PhD in AI, Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline
- 10+ years of hands on experience applying AI/ML in industry settings
- Background in solutions development or consulting services within at least two of the following: manufacturing, supply chain, operations, financial services, healthcare
- Demonstrated experience writing successful grant proposals, technical proposals, and business cases to secure funding for complex technology initiatives.
- Strong public speaking and communication skills
- Proficiency with modern AI/ML frameworks and cloud environments
- Experience with generative AI or advanced deep learning architectures
- Ability to listen closely to clients and identify the core problems behind their needs
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- Evidence of technical leadership through publications, patents, open-source contributions, industry presentations, or other recognized professional accomplishments.
