Open Rank Tenure Track Clinical Psychology Faculty Position (Aging Focus)

Job Description

Ohio University is making a significant, university-wide investment in Brain Health and Cognition Across the Lifespan. This initiative brings together faculty expertise across the College of Health Sciences and Professions, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Patton College of Education to advance discovery in brain health, cognition, communication, movement, and learning. Faculty hired into this cohort will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary network dedicated to understanding and enhancing cognitive and functional health across the lifespan, from early development through older adulthood. Together, these new faculty will strengthen Ohio University's growing reputation in brain health research and education, fostering connections across disciplines and colleges. This investment reflects the University's commitment to addressing the complex biological, behavioral, and social factors that shape brain health and to translating discoveries into meaningful outcomes that improve everyday life.

As a part of this initiative, the Department of Psychology at Ohio University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position (open rank) within our American Psychological Association-accredited clinical psychology Ph.D. program. This position will begin on August 16, 2027, with the possibility of an earlier start date of January 1, 2027. Preference will be given to applicants whose program of research is in the area of aging and/or adult cognitive/neuropsychological assessment.

Ohio University is a Carnegie Foundation R1 (highest research activity) institution, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong research record. Our clinical program follows the scientist-practitioner model of training and maintains an on-site training clinic that provides ample opportunities for clinical practice and research. Reflecting the department's commitment to collaborative, cross-disciplinary scholarship, research specialties often cut across both the experimental and clinical psychology programs. Pertinent to this search, many current faculty have concentrated expertise in aging, health, and stress and welcome new partnerships. Multiple resources for developing and maintaining a strong research program are available, including infrastructure for grant procurement, grant mentoring, research lab space, start-up funds, and support for graduate students (stipends, tuition waivers, research and travel support). Of note, faculty hired into this cohort will have additional support for graduate students as research assistants.

Responsibilities include maintaining an active, high-quality, fundable research program, directing graduate student research, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, supervising assessment practica, and participating in departmental service. Teaching load is typically 1-2 courses each semester during the 9-month academic calendar, depending on research productivity. Candidates must be committed to working effectively with students, faculty and staff who hold diverse perspectives.

Minimum Qualifications

The following are required by the start date of the position:

  • Ph.D. in clinical psychology from an American Psychological Association- or Canadian Psychological Association-accredited program.
  • Licensed or license eligible as a psychologist in Ohio.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience or high probability of maintaining an active, high-quality, fundable research program particularly in research in aging and/or adult cognitive/neuropsychological assessment.
  • Prior experience teaching, particularly cognitive assessment, and/or supervision of clinical assessment.
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness or potential for teaching effectiveness.
  • Prior experience mentoring students in research.

The position will remain open until filled. For full consideration, please apply by the posting end date.
