Job Title: Lecturer, Academic Writing

Department: School of Arts and Sciences

Reports to: Dean, School of Arts and Sciences

Effective Date: May 16, 2025

# of People Supported: ~75 students/semester

The Academic Writing Lecturer teaches courses in the First-Year Program (College Writing I and II, First Year Seminar). This is a non-tenure track position for the 2025-26 academic year, with the possibility of renewal.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Teach 21 credits per year. The teaching load will primarily include College Writing I and II and may also include First-Year Seminar and upper-level composition courses.
Tutor six hours per week in the Writing Center.
Develop syllabi and assess student work.
Attend all Program, Division, and School meetings.
Collaborate with faculty in the First-Year Program.
Consult with Library staff regarding First-Year Writing and upper-level composition courses.
Assist with development and implementation of curricular and program goals.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work with students at various levels of writing proficiency.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Qualifications:

Education: Terminal degree in English, Writing, or a closely related field

Experience: 2 or more years of experience teaching writing at the college level, preferably to students from a range of educational backgrounds. Experience working in a writing program and/or writing center is preferred.

Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods of standing, sitting at a desk, and working on a computer

Hours Expectation: Full-time, 35 hours per week
