Essential Job Duties:
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at NC State University invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position. While preference will be given to early-career scholars (Assistant or Associate Professor), exceptional candidates at the Full Professor level will also be considered. The position aligns with the College of Engineering's Applied AI Initiative and focuses on advancing research in Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and Quantum Computing-areas critical to the department's mission and of national importance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain an externally funded research program in AI, Quantum Computing, Optimization, or related areas.
- Conduct original, high-impact research and publish in leading journals and conferences.
- Collaborate across disciplines within NC State and with external partners to address complex engineering challenges.
- Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Industrial and Systems Engineering.
- Mentor and advise graduate students, fostering their academic and professional growth.
- Contribute to departmental, college, and university service activities that support NC State's mission and values.

Minimum Experience/Education:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or a related area along with appropriate experience by their start date:
- Rank of Assistant Professor - Demonstrated ability and the potential for directing activities in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility; ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs; a doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering or closely-related discipline.
- Rank of Associate Professor - Recognized ability and potential for distinction, and demonstrated ability to direct activities, in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility; demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs; a doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering or closely-related discipline.
- Rank of Professor - Distinguished achievement, and demonstrated ability to direct activities, in the mutually agreed upon realms of responsibility; established reputation in the individual's profession; demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in department, college, and university affairs; a doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering or closely-related discipline.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Optimization, and/or Quantum Computing.
- Strong methodological foundation and record (or clear potential) for publishing impactful research.
- Proven ability (or clear potential) to develop and sustain an externally funded research program.
- Commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching, advising, and mentorship.
- Commitment to engaging in outreach and extension as consistent with the mission of the university.
