Position Summary
The University at Buffalo (UB), a flagship institution of the State
University of New York and a member of the Association of American
Universities (AAU), invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured
position in Strategy at the
Assistant or Associate
Professor level in the
Department of Operations Management and
Strategy within the School of Management, with a
preference for candidates at the Associate Professor level.
We seek an accomplished scholar whose research advances knowledge
in strategic management and contributes to the School of
Management's mission of producing impactful research, delivering
innovative business education, and engaging with organizations and
communities locally and globally.
For full consideration, required application materials should be
formally submitted by December 15th, 2026. Faculty obligation will
begin mid-August 2027.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Have an outstanding record of influential scholarship, as
evidenced by a strong publication and citation record.
Publish in leading scholarly journals and contribute to the
advancement of knowledge in areas such as competitive strategy,
corporate strategy, entrepreneurship, innovation, international
business, sustainability, technology strategy, or related
fields.
Teach doctoral, MBA, master's, and undergraduate courses in
strategy and related disciplines. Specific courses may include
Managerial Economics and Macro Economics, Strategy, and/or
Entrepreneurship.
Contribute to executive and professional education
initiatives.
Mentor doctoral students and junior faculty members.
Provide academic leadership within the department, school, and
university.
Contribute to curriculum development and strategic initiatives
within the School of Management.
Build collaborations across UB and with external stakeholders,
including industry, government, and academic partners.
Participate actively in professional organizations and the
broader scholarly community.

The Department of Operations Management and Strategy is home to
distinguished faculty conducting impactful research in strategic
management, entrepreneurship, international business, operations
management, and supply chain management. The department supports
doctoral specialization in strategic management and provides a
collaborative intellectual environment that encourages innovative
and interdisciplinary scholarship.

Minimum Qualifications
Assistant Professor
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in a business discipline or related
field.
- A research portfolio if applying for an Assistant Professor
position
- A record of influential scholarship at a major research
university if applying for an Associate position, including a
strong publication record in top journals in Strategy.
Associate Professor
- Doctoral degree (PhD) in a business discipline or related
field.
- Demonstrated record of high-quality scholarly research with
publications in peer-reviewed journals recognized within the
field.
- Evidence of effective teaching at the undergraduate and/or
graduate level.
- Qualifications consistent with appointment at the rank of
Associate Professor with tenure at a major research
university.
Preferred Qualifications
- Research that addresses contemporary strategic challenges
facing organizations and society.
- Ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations across
business and related fields.
- Experience securing externally funded research or leading major
research initiatives.
- An interest in developing the research and outreach capability
of research and practice centers.
- Evidence of commitment to fostering an inclusive and
collaborative academic environment.
