Operating Engineer III
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Operating Engineer III for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Under the direction of the Senior Shift Supervisor, maintains, operates and repairs the stationery boilers and auxiliary equipment, throughout the Rutgers New Brunswick Campus.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of boilers, motors, pumps, compressors, valves, and other auxiliary equipment.
- Operates boilers and pressure vessels at maximum efficiency at all times, resulting in minimum energy consumption.
- Periodically makes comprehensive tests, takes readings of fuel consumption pressure, draft conditions, temperatures, steam flow and other recordings.
- Adds chemicals to treat steam, water, fuel in accordance with requirements prescribed.
- Ensures compliance with all regulations.
- Keeps work area clean and neat. Performs a variety of maintenance duties as directed by Plant Manager or Senior Shift Supervisor.
- Makes continual inspections of equipment and systems in area of responsibility and reports conditions to the Plant Manager and Senior Shift Supervisor.
- Must be available to cover shifts in emergencies.
- Completes all paperwork in a timely manner. Maintains the logs, records and files all of the auxiliary Plants. Gives detail exchange of information to relieving operator.
- Continually inspects equipment.
- Uses knowledge of Plant layout and learns alternate ways of maintaining continuous operation.
- Analyzes problems, both causes and effects, and takes corrective action as needed.
- Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Rutgers' regulations, laws and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified
- Understands and adheres to Rutgers compliance standards as they appear in RBHS' Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operation of steam, hot water boilers, and auxiliary equipment as it relates to the boiler plant operation. A minimum blue seal is required for this position.
