  • Employment Type: Full time, continuing role.
  • Remuneration: Professional Staff Level 7: From $113,926 + 17% superannuation
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid working model)

About the Role

The Operations Manager is responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Lifelong Learning portfolio, including UNSW Online and Short Courses. The role encompasses a range of administrative, commercial, and human resources functions, ensuring that operations are compliant, streamlined, and aligned with the strategic objectives of Lifelong Learning. This role works closely with Faculties, as well as Divisional Finance and HR teams, to optimise workflows, coordinate resource allocation, and enhance overall productivity. Additionally, they support the growth of the portfolio, overseeing initiatives from concept through to launch to ensure sustainable expansion.

This position reports directly to the Head of Lifelong Learning Operations.

The successful applicant will possess and have experience in:

  • Manage the sessional academic administration process, from contracting to payment, in a timely and accurate manner consistent with university guidelines and policies.
  • Ensure all financial operations comply with relevant laws, regulations, and organisational agreements and policies.
  • Establish productive and effective working relationships with UNSW Schools, Faculties, Divisions and external partners by building proactive collaboration and successful communication channels.
  • Work closely with the finance team to understand their requirements and provide operational support for accurate reporting and forecasting.
  • Collaborate and contribute on team projects aimed at optimising operations and processes.
  • Provide training and support to newly hired casual academics on UNSW systems and ensure all operational processes are communicated. Ensure they have the tools required for success.
  • Oversee relationships with external vendors and service providers to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness
  • Assist in the preparation and management of the operational budget for the Head of Operations.

About You

  • Tertiary level qualification in a relevant discipline, preferably with postgraduate qualifications or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of relevant education, training and/or experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of higher-education administrative practices as well as of University and Faculty governance, policy and procedural frameworks.
  • Experience developing and implementing project plans, including evaluation of effectiveness and impact, timelines, regular communication and monitoring of progress.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to conceptualise, establish, and implement innovative solutions and a proactive approach to driving process improvement.
  • High-level organisational skills with proven ability to deal with multiple tasks, establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and consult widely with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong influencing skills and proven ability to influence, persuade, negotiate and inspire people to act towards a common purpose to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
