Job Title: Oral Health Therapist Lab Technologist, Faculty of Dentistry (NUSDen)

Job Description

  1. Image Acquisition:
    • Operate radiographic equipment to capture dental images using intra oral and extra oral techniques such as bitewing, periapical and panoramic. Ensure proper patient positioning and equipment settings to achieve optimal image quality. Address patient concerns and feedback.
  2. Pre-clinical and Clinical Teaching/Supervision:
    • Work with academic staff to conduct practical sessions. Procedures include both intra oral and extra oral radiography.
    • Administer both pre-clinical and clinical competency tests.
    • Organize and conduct remedial lessons for students who do not pass the clinical competency tests, followed by a retest after the remedial sessions.
    • Oversee students to ensure adherence to proper radiography procedures concerning patient care, technique, infection control, scanning protocol, and documentation.
    • To supervise students on pre-clinical Endodontics radiography using mobile machines in Simulation Lab.
  3. Radiographic Equipment Training
    • Conduct training sessions for students, postgraduate residents, and research fellows on the correct and safe utilization of radiographic equipment and mobile machines.
  4. Administrative Duties
    • Perform radiograph extraction for dental undergraduate students to be used in presentations and examinations and assist with the uploading of external radiographs.
    • Gather the rejected images and document the reasons for rejection. Conduct an analysis of these rejections and forward the findings to the lead radiographer to support the development of teaching materials.
  5. Professional Development
    • Stay updated on advancements in dental radiography techniques and technologies. Participate in continuing education opportunities (example workshops, seminars and conferences) to enhance skills and knowledge

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree in Oral Health Therapy (SDC registered) and holding R1 license (registration as a radiation worker)

Years of Experience:
At least 3 years of working experience as Oral Health Therapist with relevant experience working with dental radiographic equipment.

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Competent radiography skills, and ability to evaluate the quality of images
  2. Understand the necessity of the radiological examination to identify crucial information relevant to the case
  3. Working knowledge on radiologic sciences with regards to radiation protection and patient care
  4. Strong attention to details and excellent communication skills
  5. Ability to work collaboratively with a dental team
