West Virginia University (WVU) School of Medicine seeks a new Orlando F. Gabriele Chair of Radiology in collaboration with West Virginia University Hospitals/University Health Associates. This is an exceptional leadership opportunity for a physician with a steadfast commitment to advancing radiology through excellence in clinical care, education, and research, and will be a pivotal contributor to the forward-thinking strategy for WVU Medicine and the Department of Radiology.
Position Summary:
The Department of Radiology at West Virginia University serves as the academic imaging enterprise for WVU Medicine, the state’s flagship academic health system encompassing twenty-five hospitals and a rapidly expanding regional network across West Virginia and the surrounding Appalachian region. As part of the WVU School of Medicine, the Department provides comprehensive diagnostic and interventional imaging services while advancing the institution’s missions of clinical care, education, and research.
ALLOCATION OF TIME: Clinical 30-40%; Administrative, Educational and Research, 60-70%.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
EDUCATIONAL:
- Works collaboratively with the Chancellor & Executive Dean, Associate Deans, other Department Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty on curriculum for the medical school.
- Teaches medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.
- Supports the Residency and Fellowship Program Directors and complies with the standards of the Office of Graduate Medical Education.
CLINICAL:
- Determines the qualifications and assesses the competency of all members of the department.
- Collaborates with clinical services to support a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
SCHOLARSHIP:
- Participates in scholarly activities.
- Enables faculty to develop and enhance academic and professional development.
FINANCIAL:
- Oversees departmental finances with regards to the clinical practice and educational mission.
HOSPITAL:
- Oversees clinical operations, capital purchases, and compliance.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS AND OUTREACH:
- Seeks collaborative relationships with clinicians and administrators at system hospitals.
STRATEGIC PLANNING:
- Participates in active and ongoing strategic planning for the department.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE AND EXPERIENCE:
- At least ten (10) years of clinical practice experience and a minimum of three (3) years administrative experience in an academic medical center preferred.
- An accomplished physician (MD/DO), with current and ongoing certification by the American Board of Radiology.
- Must meet requirements for medical licensure in the State of West Virginia.
- Current medical school appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
