Job Description

Job Summary:

The Outreach and Special Projects Coordinator assumes a key support role for all departmental community outreach efforts. They also support a range of special projects and events to bring key stakeholders together to promote civic engagement work at Harvard College through residential engagement and supporting a wide range of campus civic visibility efforts and campus engagement activities

Job-Specific Responsibilities:

Community Outreach:

  • Oversees production of the Public Service Weekly newsletter during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Works with several campus offices to generate social media content and connects with a variety of key stakeholders across campus and in the community.
  • Develops content for promotional materials, annual reports, and program directories. They are specifically responsible for developing content for the department's annual report and public service directory.

Special Projects:

  • Works in collaboration with Public Service Tutors, proctors, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners to support special programming for the department
  • Support for events includes conferences, speaker events, residential activities, community-building activities, along with days of service
  • This role will provide additional support to student leaders and support several major departmental activities including board meetings and conferences
  • Reviews grant applications, serves on selection committees, supports advisory boards, and represents the department at campus functions and community meetings as needed

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 1 year of community engagement work experience in an academic or non-profit environment

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex situations effectively.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders and constituencies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive relationships with a high degree of professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, particularly in organizing student programs, activities, and events.
  • Knowledge of the public service landscape at Harvard College is preferred.
  • Experience in residential life or student residential communities is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of service and support.

  • Other Information: The work schedule and location will be set by the department at its discretion and based upon operational needs and objectives and consistent with College Policy, which requires 5 days on-site in Cambridge, MA during term time (first day of classes through commencement), with the exception of winter break in December, spring break in March, and the summer months when students are away from campus, where staff is expected be on campus two days a week. When not working at a Harvard or Harvard-designated location, employees in hybrid positions must work in a Harvard registered state in compliance with the University's Policy on Employment Outside of Massachusetts. Additional details about the College policy will be discussed during the interview process. Certain visa types and funding sources may limit work location. Individuals must meet work location sponsorship requirements prior to employment.
