Outreach Coordinator (Fixed Term)
Outreach Coordinator (Fixed Term)
Are you keen to share your passion for Computer Science? And do you want to encourage more people from all backgrounds to engage with this field of work and study?
The Department of Computer Science and Technology is seeking an organised, creative and enthusiastic Outreach Coordinator to deliver our growing Outreach Programme. The role holder will be working within the Research Strategy Team, coordinating significant outreach projects involving academics, students, the public and external organisations on widening participation, outreach and student recruitment.
Here in the Department, we want to inspire more people to think about studying and pursuing careers in this field, so we offer a range of activities to enthuse prospective students. We are committed to widening participation in Computer Science and keen to encourage more students into this field from backgrounds that are currently under-represented.
As our Outreach Coordinator, you would be taking on a varied and dynamic role, working both on your own initiative and liaising with organisations inside and outside the University of Cambridge. Among others, you would be responsible for running events for visiting schools, and delivering Summer Schools for A Level students, including a dedicated programme for women and non-binary students in Computer Science.
Additionally, you would help manage undergraduates who are taking part in summer research experience placements, and deliver outreach activities during public open days. There is also considerable scope for the role holder to use their ideas and enthusiasm to originate effective new outreach activities and events.
This is a diverse and dynamic role, and the role holder may be asked to carry out other duties as appropriate.
The ideal candidates will be educated in Computer Science to degree level / Level 6 vocational qualification or equivalent level of practical experience. With some experience of event planning and administration, and experience of working in an educational setting, you will have well-developed communication skills, experience of using social media in a professional context, and an awareness of student recruitment issues in Higher Education.
The Department offers a stimulating work environment with committed academic staff and a friendly and supportive professional services team. You will be encouraged and supported to develop links with recruitment, outreach, and schools' liaison teams across the University and the Cambridge colleges to increase the impact of our outreach activities, and to develop your own skills and professional network.
This is a full-time, fixed-term post (with funding available for two years in the first instance, pending further funds becoming available). Some evening and weekend work will occasionally be required to support outreach events and activities. Please be aware that some events are fixed in the calendar and will require in-person coordination.
Candidates are invited to discuss flexible and hybrid working arrangements, which are supported in the Department.
Informal enquiries about the role are welcomed and should be directed to the current role holder, Aga Niewiadomska, on outreach-coordinator@cst.cam.ac.uk
Benefits of working at the University of Cambridge include:
- Competitive rates of pay with automatic service-related pay progression and annual cost of living increases;
- Generous maternity, adoption and shared parental leave entitlement and other family friendly schemes (e.g. workplace nurseries);
- An auto-enrolment pension scheme, with a generous employer contribution;
- Travel benefits and retail discounts at over 2,000 local and national stores.
