Outreach Representative, Pediatrics/HIV-AIDS - Department of Pediatrics
Job Purpose
Provides HIV prevention services including education, outreach and counseling and testing to high-risk youth in metro-Detroit.
Essential Functions
- Identify and recruit high risk families and youth in clinical and community settings, at screening events and through the internet to collect data and track behavior.
- Establish confidential relationships required to interview participants or request identified individuals to complete surveys to collect data regarding knowledge of particular issues, behavior, and barriers to counseling, testing and treatment.
- Provide information and promote awareness among at-risk families and youth.
- Persuade individuals to become aware of their condition, inform participants of the danger of risky behavior; and provide advice about available services in the areas of testing, treatment and counseling.
- Compile and provide data for use in grant preparation in order to evaluate and provide comprehensive services aimed at families and youths at risk.
- Serve in a liaison capacity to internal and external contacts.
- Coordinate events and projects with collaborating agencies to exchange information and remain current with developments in field.
Unique duties
Wayne State University Department of Pediatrics is seeking an Outreach Representative to work within the Ryan White Part A: Ending the HIV Epidemic. Essential functions include increasing engagement of services for PrEP, HIV Prevention for HIV positive teens and young adults, decreasing barriers to access care, providing peer support, role modeling in creating healthy life decisions regarding HIV status, providing referrals and education to clients, addressing community issues impacting infected clients and HIV prevention strategies, and offer assistance in improving life skills related to health care literacy.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduate (or GED) or equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Some knowledge pertinent health issues preferred.
Experience: Entry Level. Minimum 1 year experience working with families and youths preferred.
