Outreach Specialist
Job Summary
The Office of Multicultural Affairs Health Professions Learners (OMA-HPL) provides academic support for students historically underrepresented in medical professions and creates a learning environment that fosters academic success for all students. The OMA-HPL promotes student success while also leading the School of Medicine and Public Health at the UW Madison (UWSMPH) outreach initiatives to increase the number of public health minded students entering the health professions.
The Outreach Specialist will provide a wide variety of program support and coordination for OMA-HPL pathways programs, outreach initiatives, and student development initiatives for undergraduate and medical students. This position will work collaboratively with internal and external campus partners, community organizations, undergraduate programs, Universities of Wisconsin campuses, and health professions programs at UWSMPH.
- This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
- The work schedule is flexible and will be determined at the time of hire
- Terminal, 24 month appointment
- This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding.
- Must provide a valid driver's license.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
- Assist with additional OMA-HPL student development initiatives and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean and Director of OMA-HPL.
- Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
- Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
- Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
- Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
Required Qualifications
- Professional experience in student outreach, pathways programs, or student support; particularly in a higher education setting, with a focus on supporting students from underrepresented and/or historically marginalized backgrounds, student recruitment, and/or graduate program preparation.
- Experience in event planning, coordination, and execution (scheduling learner activities, coordinating programs and events, preparing professional documents and program materials, maintaining accurate records, and meeting assigned deadlines).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
- Demonstrated administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience with digital tools for content creation, presentation design, and team collaboration including Canva, Adobe, PowerPoint, Teams, Google Drive, and Box
