Position Highlights
The Outreach Specialist will primarily support the work of the Government and Community Relations team members located in Scottsdale while working collaboratively with other distributed team members. The individual supports the community engagement, legislative outreach, local and rural outreach functions while gaining valuable experience and contacts in local engagement and public affairs. Manages, develops and coordinates event logistics, provides facility support and works closely with the departments located at the U of A Scottsdale Center.
The Government & Community Relations team works with the Office of the President, students, faculty and staff, businesses and community groups throughout the state to develop strategies and policies that advance the university's interests. Based at the U of A Scottsdale Center, the team includes:
- State relations
- Local and rural outreach
- Federal relations
- Local outreach at the main campus in Tucson

Duties & Responsibilities
Provides high-level of strategic support to the GCR department:
- Strategically plans, coordinates, and delivers events in alignment with GCR objectives. Manages event logistics, including scheduling, venue arrangements, catering, technology setup, and on-site support to ensure seamless execution.
- Evaluate event outcomes and implement improvements for future programming. Interprets and collects data to support engagement strategies and targeted communications.
- Develop, maintain, and administer a comprehensive database of key stakeholders, including government officials, community leaders, and institutional partners.
- Collaborate with other university departments and external stakeholders to ensure quality delivery of responsibilities.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners to strengthen relationships and promote collaborative initiatives. Manages financial and accounting reporting as necessary.
Digital Assets and Content Management:
- Maintain and regularly update GCR and Scottsdale Center websites, ensuring content is accurate, accessible, and strategically aligned with university branding and messaging.
- Develops communication materials to promote programs. Organize, archive, and manage digital files - photos, graphics, and documents for departmental use in events, campaigns, and communications.
- Develop and implement Trellis campaigns to support outreach, event promotion, and stakeholder engagement. Create and develop targeted audience lists, coordinate messaging, and track performance metrics to assess and inform future outreach strategies.
- Administer and coordinate Trellis event functions, including RSVP tracking, send reminders, and follow-up communications. Collaborate with internal teams to ensure events are properly configured and effectively communicated to targeted audiences.
Research, Writing and Communication Projects:
- Performs and conducts research on topics and issues related to the University of Arizona's presence and impact throughout the state. Evaluate findings and develop concise reports.
- Develop meeting materials. Draft, edit and format materials, talking points, agendas, presentations, and other documents to support meetings with internal stakeholders, community partners, and government officials.
Event Program Management:
- Coordinate and manage events hosted at the U of A Scottsdale Center in partnership with industry, community, and university stakeholders.
- Collaborate with appropriate university departments to implement event logistics, technical needs, and facility arrangements.
- Provide on-site support to ensure professional delivery of programs and activities.
Strategic Departmental Improvement:
- Collaborate with team members on practices that support departmental goals and align with university priorities.
- Develop, implement and execute creative, forward-thinking ideas that strengthen and enhance operations, engagement and overall impact to GCR.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge and familiarity with U of A's mission and strategic priorities.
- Familiarity with government, business and education stakeholders in Arizona.
- Experience supporting senior leaders.
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Knowledge of AP style.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required. Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Salesforce (Trellis) data management systems. Microsoft suite skills: PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel.
