Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting multiple positions for a Pūkenga - Lecturer/Pūkenga Matua - Senior Lecturer in Law to join Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law on a permanent, full-time basis.
We welcome applications for Lecturer and Senior Lecturer positions from candidates with interests and expertise across all areas of law.
Ō pūmanawa - About you
The ability to contribute to teaching and development/leadership in criminal law, private law (including contract, torts, property, equity, trusts, commercial law) or tikanga Māori would be an advantage; however, strong contribution to other core teaching and substantial scholarly expertise in other areas of law is also valued.
We also particularly welcome applications from those with interests and expertise in te ao Māori and Pasifika legal cultures who can contribute to further development of Faculty capacity and initiatives in these areas.
A successful applicant will be qualified and have relevant skills and experience to undertake the following duties in a leading law school commensurate with the level of appointment.
Duties include the following:
- Writing high quality legal scholarship that is published in peer-reviewed academic journals or books, in New Zealand and overseas
- Engaging in supervision of postgraduate researchers, and in teaching into core law courses, research-based teaching, and course coordination in Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law
- Mentoring students and encouraging their learning of the law and their preparation for careers and contributions to community service
- Contributing to the development of legal scholarship by Faculty colleagues and the Faculty's postgraduate researchers, including by participation in workshops and other forums
- Serving the broader legal academic community both national and international, through dissemination of research, community engagement, and otherwise contributing to wider legal policy debates and to community understanding of legal issues
- Serving Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law and the wider university community of scholars by participating in committees and other vehicles for faculty and university governance, including in the areas of research strategy and curriculum design
