Position Announcement

The ICL Executive Director is the key management leader of the Institute for Continued Learning (ICL) and a part-time employee of Utah Tech University reporting to the Associate Provost for Academic Community Engagement. The Director oversees policies and procedures established by the ICL Executive Council and abides by the ICL Constitution and By-Laws. The Director has overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization. The Director is responsible for implementing the ICL Mission in partnership with the ICL Council, Executive Committee and ICL Board President. Other key duties include supervising ICL staff, overseeing member recruitment and registration, managing volunteer teachers, maintaining relationships with members, serving as a liaison between Utah Tech University (UT) and ICL, managing communication and the newsletter, and executing ICL's charter. In addition, the Director coordinates with the ICL Treasurer and UT Business Office to ensure that all expenditures are within UT Policies and the ICL budget.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with UT, maintaining strong relationships and seeks opportunities to develop new relationships and conjoint projects.
  • Serves as a member of the ICL Council and Executive Committee, participating in, developing and implementing strategic plans and projects.
  • Explores and implements programs to expand the breadth and reach of the ICL program, working with the Executive Committee.
  • Coordinates with committees, ensuring committees actions are consistent with ICL policy, mission and strategic plan, and assists in prioritizing resources for and implementing committee initiatives
  • Oversees the ICL day-to-day operations.
  • Supervises ICL Office Manager.
  • Supervises and supports instructors.
  • Supports ICL Council in implementing policies and procedures passed by the ICL Council.
  • Oversees the registration process and ensures it is properly maintained and updated.
  • Maintains a record of all financial transactions.
  • Establishes the start and end dates of courses each semester.
  • Secures classrooms and spaces from UT using the EMS scheduling system and coordinating and achieving final authorization from UT Events Scheduling Department.
  • Authorized signer on ICL's budgetary accounts at UT and executes and signs UT internal billing processes.
  • Oversees the production of the ICI Course Catalog.
  • Is the primary point contact for the on-line registration system.
  • Oversees the development of each semester's curriculum and schedule, working with the Curriculum Committee.
  • Responsible for reports needed by UT.
  • Responsible for registration planning, scheduling and registration events.
  • Works with the Curriculum Committee to ensure instructors are trained on and following procedures.
  • Works with UT Information Technology to address classroom and office technology needs.
  • Responsible for keeping the ICL Website updated.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree or higher preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, depending on the relevance and length of related professional experience
  • Leadership experience within non-profit and/or higher education environments preferred
  • Passionate about adult lifelong learning
  • Can articulate ICL's philosophy and what it means to the community
  • Has experience working with or in non-profit organizations or higher education
  • Shows flexibility to handle multiple complex roles that demand a wide range of knowledge
  • Ability to work successfully with employees, members, instructors, volunteers, and council members
  • Exercises a high degree of diplomacy, planning, and organizational skills
  • Proficient with computer programs, including Publisher, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities to employees and volunteers

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Part-time hourly staff position (up to 29 hours per week). Hourly rate of $25+/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
