P/T Instructor Pool - The Higher Education for Incarcerated Youth program
Position Announcement
The Higher Education for Incarcerated Youth program is building the pool of qualified applicants for possible future part-time teaching vacancies and to fill immediate instruction needs in the program. This is a continuous posting, not an announcement for a specific vacancy.
The future, current and past courses housed within this program include: Math, Finance, Economics, Psychology, Biology, Physics, Criminal Justice, Art, Theatre, Music, English, Political Science, Nutrition, Photography, Astronomy, Film, Sociology, Literature, Composition, Business, Anatomy, Science and Philosophy.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses as assigned, under the direction of the Department Chair or Program Coordinator. A course catalog by division, major, and discipline is found online at https://catalog.utahtech.edu/courses/
- Abide by all applicable executive orders, federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations, as well as University policies and procedures relating to adjunct faculty and general campus employment. Attend and/or complete required trainings by the University and additional training as determined by the Department or Program.
Qualifications
- At least a Master's Degree in related field required.
- Must be a resident of Utah, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, Texas, or Florida to teach online or virtual courses.
- Demonstrated knowledge of course content required.
- Teaching experience in higher education preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to effectively teach students using a variety of instructional methods and apply best practices in the discipline.
- Ability to communicate with diverse groups.
- Ability to use student-centered and active-learning instructional strategies and techniques.
- Ability to motivate and fairly evaluate student progress and achievement.
- Non-judgmental
- Ability to maintain privacy, professionalism, and confidentiality at all times, including understanding of FERPA and other state and federal regulations that guide interactions with incarcerated students and information about them.
- Respect for and understanding of the academic, personal and social needs of students, particularly underrepresented and underserved populations, including youth who are incarcerated.
Supplemental Information
POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Part-time instructor position, paid at $925 per credit hour and governed by University Policies 631 and 638. Fall Semester 2025 begins August 20th.
