P/T Tutor (Biology/Chemistry)-Tutoring & Academic Support - Bunker Hill Community College
Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Biology/Chemistry tutor is to provide one-on-one or group support to students who are currently enrolled in science courses. The tutor's work is informed by best practices and the mission of TASC.
The Professional Biology/Chemistry Tutor will also be responsible for the following:
- Assisting students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research and other academic assignments.
- Demonstrating academic best practices for specific subjects and assignments, including research and writing.
- Working with students to help them understand key concepts, especially those learned in the classroom.
- Providing students positive and constructive feedback.
- Building meaningful connections with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Attending staff meetings several times each semester.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or a related area is required.
- Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole in addition to English desired.
- Ability to work independently.
- Proven ability to work with a faculty, staff, and student population.
- One tutor focusing mostly on biology, anatomy and physiology, and any health science disciplines is needed Monday and Thursday 9am to 5pm in-person on the Chelsea campus.
- One tutor focusing mostly on chemistry and organic chemistry is needed Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 4 pm-7 pm on the Charlestown campus; ability to also work online weekend hours a plus.
Preferred Requirements
- Master's degree is preferred.
- 1+ years of tutoring or related experience preferred.
Additional Information
Salary: $35.31 an hour at 16 hours a week. Part-Time Non-Benefited Position.
