Position Announcement

UT PREP is hiring an Assistant Director to help lead our hands-on, STEM-focused summer program. If you're organized, student-centered, and excited about making an impact, this role offers a chance to support staff, guide daily operations, and help create an unforgettable experience for high-achieving, middle-school students. Candidates with an education background are strongly encouraged to apply.

Utah Tech PREP is a free, 6-week summer program that challenges high-achieving middle school students who are interested in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Students take academically-intense classes, work on team-based projects, hear from STEM professionals, and participate in engaging field trips. Through these experiences, they strengthen their critical thinking and problem-solving skills and build a strong foundation for future college success. UT PREP expects to serve approximately 120 students during our 2026 program, which operates June 8 - July 16, 2026.

Responsibilities

Administrative & Program Leadership
  • Support daily program operations and assist the Director with scheduling, calendars, and logistical planning.
  • Coordinate classroom needs, facility use, program events, and daily procedures.
  • Maintain organized digital files and program records.
  • Respond to questions from parents, students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Assist with student recruitment, application review, scoring, and acceptance decisions.
  • Ensure alignment with UT PREP goals, policies, and requirements.
  • Assist with hiring and onboarding of teachers and Program Assistants.
  • Jointly oversee program staff with the Director, maintain consistent communication, and manage staff concerns
  • Plan and lead staff trainings and weekly meetings.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide feedback to teachers.
Program Operations
  • Oversee daily routines and student transitions to keep the program running smoothly.
  • Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment through active supervision in hallways, classrooms, and outdoor areas.
  • Assist with field trips, large events, and guest speakers.
  • Support staff in implementing effective behavior strategies.
  • Communicate with parents regarding behavioral or academic issues.
  • Work with teachers and Program Assistants to monitor grades and coordinate tutoring support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to support program operations and staff.

SCHEDULE

This is a seasonal position running February through July, with the possibility of additional work outside these months depending on program needs. Candidates must be able to fulfill the program's required work hours as outlined below:

  • February 1 - May 22, 2026: Hours vary based on program needs, ranging from occasional short assignments (2-3 hours/week) to busier periods requiring up to 15-20 hours/week. Hours are flexible and will be coordinated with the Director. Remote work is available during this period.
  • May 26 - July 23, 2026: This is the core on-site period (on the UT campus). The schedule includes 4 days per week, up to 29 hours, generally from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. The specific days will be determined in coordination with the Director; Fridays are required, while other days may vary (e.g., Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday).
  • May 13, 2026: The Student-Parent Orientation is a required event, held on the UT campus. Required hours are 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.
  • July 16, 2026: The Closing Ceremony is a required event, held on the UT campus. Required hours are 5:30 - 9:00 p.m.
  • Holidays: June 15 and July 3

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications
  • Associate's degree in any field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to supervise and support staff during daily operations.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in real time.
  • Ability to pass a background check and meet all requirements for working with minors on campus.
  • Availability for the required schedule, including the full on-site summer program.
Preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, ideally in education or a related field.
  • Experience working with youth in an educational or program setting.
  • Experience supervising staff or leading teams.
  • Experience supporting academic enrichment, summer, or youth programs.
  • Familiarity with behavior support and student intervention practices.
  • Experience coordinating program logistics and events.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Part-time hourly staff (overtime eligible) position, working up to 29 hours per week. Hourly rate of $20+/hr, depending on qualifications & experience.
