As a professional member of the Department of Public Safety, the Parking Enforcement Officer ensures a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors which is consistent with Highline College's mission and values.
This position is part time at 16 hours a week.
We are hiring for two vacancies, with opportunities available on both the Day Shift and Afternoon Shift.
This is a temporary hourly position that is limited to 12 months or 1050 hours.
Reporting to the Associate Director of Public Safety and Emergency Management, Parking Enforcement Officer will:
- Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the college community as well as fellow employees, reflecting positively on the College and Public Safety Department;
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and appropriately apply laws, college policies and safety regulations:
- Issue citations within parking enforcement software for violations related to College regulations;
- Apply vehicle immobilizers ("boots") for repeat offenders;
- Answer questions, provide directions, and explain parking rules or citation appeal processes;
- Provide surveillance for criminal activity;
- Support data entry and distribution for ORCA subsidy program;
- Assists students by explaining parking and transportation programs;
- Basic office duties, including answering the phone and radio;
- Perform other duties as necessary.
Ability to:
- Learn, interpret and enforce rules;
- Follow written and oral instructions;
- Perform strenuous physical tasks, such as; running, walking, standing for a long period of time, lifting barricades, cones, and other traffic control devices, and responding to emergency situations in a timely manner;
- Ability to work outdoors in any weather conditions;
- Address emergencies and follow appropriate course of action;
- Communicate effectively, in both oral and written form, including use of two-way radio, telephone, and in face-to-face contacts;
- Maintain proficiency of patrol standards, industry security standards and familiarization with department Standard Operating Procedures;
- Must be able to give or take direction in stressful or emergency situations;
- Operate security equipment, including a radio.
Knowledge of:
- Rules governing access to campus buildings and grounds;
- Safety precautions and fire hazards;
- Law enforcement basics.

The schedule for this position may vary due to class and campus schedules.
MINIMUM QUALIIFACTIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- Minimum 1 year of customer service experience;
- Proficiency in English reading, writing, and verbal communication.
