Part Time Armed Campus Security Officer
Job Description
Sussex County Community College is seeking a part time armed Campus Security Officer. The SCCC Campus Security Officer focuses on providing a safe and secure environment for student, faculty, staff and guests of the college. Responsible for the implementation of safety and security operations that will ensure the well-being of the campus community. Facilitates the College's Security department and serves as a public safety agent performing a variety of communications and operational tasks in support of public safety, security and other operations in accordance with facility necessities. This position provides armed security services during the daytime campus operations and serves as a visible presence to deter criminal activity and to respond to emergencies.
Part Time Shift Schedule - Wednesday - Saturday
Mix of 7:00am - 3:00pm and 3:00pm - 11:00pm Shifts
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide armed security coverage for assigned campus buildings and grounds.
- Conducts routine patrols (foot and/or vehicle) to deter theft, vandalism and unsafe behavior.
- Monitor campus access points and respond to security incidents, alarms and emergency calls.
- Assist with building access, protection, parking safety and providing overall armed security presence.
- Enforces College polices, procedures and applicable laws in a fair and professional manner.
- Respond promptly to emergencies including medical incidents, disturbances and safety hazards.
- Prepare accurate written reports and incident documentation.
- Work collaboratively with College administration, local law enforcement and emergency responders.
- Maintain proper care, control, and secure handling of issued firearm and equipment.
- Provide customer service oriented assistance to students, staff and visitors.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
- High School Diploma or GED required
CERTIFICATIONS:
- Valid New Jersey SORA (Security Officer Registration Act) certification
- Valid NJ Armed Security Guard certification
- Valid NJ firearms permit and current firearms qualification, in compliance with NJ state law
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and maintain such status throughout employment.
EXPERIENCE:
- Work experience in armed security, law enforcement or military service preferred.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
- Ability to work, organize & operate with a high level of efficiency under pressure & extreme stress.
- Ability to work with diverse populations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Professional and compassionate demeanor
- Ability to stand, walk and patrol for extended periods.
- Must successfully pass background check, and firearms qualification.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience in a higher education or campus environment.
- Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and community based security practices.
- ICS & NIMS training certification preferred
- Knowledge of Clery compliance
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Indoor and outdoor campus environment
- Must be able to lift 25 pounds
- Ability to respond quicky to emergencies, including walking, stairs, and uneven terrain.
