NSU Police hires additional security personnel for campus and athletic events to supplement existing police staffing, assist with crowd and traffic control, monitor access points, and help maintain a safe environment without compromising routine campus patrol coverage and emergency response capabilities. Wage employees are paid an hourly rate for actual hours worked and are limited to working 1500 hours per year and can only work a maximum of 29 hours a week. Work hours must be counted on the
basis of the twelve-month period beginning May 1 of each year and April 30 of the following year. Wage employees in all agencies (all branches of government) are limited to working no more than 1500 hours during each twelve-month period of May 1-April 30. Should you work 1500 hours prior to April 30, your services will be terminated immediately. You will not be eligible for employment again until May 1. It is the responsibility of the employee and supervisor, as well as the Office of Human Resources, to monitor these hours to ensure compliance to policy. Wage employees may not earn leave nor do they have access to the Grievance Procedure process. They are not covered by the provision of the Virginia Personnel Act and are not entitled to the benefits afforded employees occupying classified positions.
