Job Summary:
The University of Colorado School of Medicine (CUSOM) seeks an innovative and collaborative Associate Director of the Evidence-Based Medicine and Medical Informatics (EBMI) curriculum (0.15 FTE). This curriculum is a required component of the Health System Science Pillar within the Undergraduate Medical Education program. The vision of the Health and Society domain is to prepare CU's physician graduates to be systems thinkers, who provide exemplary patient and family-centered care, and promote health equity and population health through advocacy and leadership on behalf of diverse patients, families, and their communities.
The role is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and oversight of the Evidence-Based Medicine and Inquiry (EBMI) curriculum across all four years of medical education. This includes designing integrated learning experiences, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards, collaborating with faculty and course directors, and maintaining continuity across curricular phases. The position also supports the creation and refinement of assessments, provides faculty development for EBMI facilitators, and contributes to continuous quality improvement efforts through active participation in curriculum committees and regular reporting.
Supervision Received: The EBMI Associate Director assists the EBMI Director and reports directly to the Director of the Health System Science Pillar.
Supervision Exercised: This position has no direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Curriculum Development, Teaching and Oversight: Lead the design, development, and delivery of the four-year Evidence-Based Medicine and Inquiry (EBMI) curriculum, ensuring alignment with School of Medicine and accreditation standards. Collaborate with course directors, phase leaders, and curriculum stakeholders to ensure cohesive integration, progression from foundational to clinical application, and consistency in teaching and assessment. Continuously improve curriculum through feedback, innovation in instructional strategies, and support of faculty delivering EBMI content.
- Assessment: Collaborate with the Office of Assessment, Evaluations and Outcomes (AEO) team to design, refine, and implement assessments that evaluate student understanding and application of EBMI content. Support grading and continuous quality improvement of assessment tools to ensure alignment with curricular goals and educational standards.
- Faculty Development: Partner with leadership to recruit and develop faculty for effective delivery of the EBMI curriculum. Provide ongoing faculty development and support for small group facilitators across all phases of the curriculum.
- Committee Participation/Administrative Work: Participate in regular meetings with curriculum leadership to ensure coordination and alignment of EBMI initiatives. Collaborate on the preparation and presentation of annual continuous quality improvement (CQI) reports to key stakeholders and committees.
Work Location: Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule as needed for teaching and in-person meetings.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
This is an open rank position and could be categorized as Instructor, Senior Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor based on experience and qualifications as indicated below:
- Instructor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Instructor rank. Minimum 1 years' experience with curriculum development, assessment, and/or teaching in the health professions or related field.
- Senior Instructor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Senior Instructor rank. Minimum 1 years' experience with curriculum development, assessment, and/or teaching in the health professions or related field.
- Assistant Professor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Assistant Professor rank. Minimum 1 years' experience with curriculum development, assessment, and/or teaching in the health professions or related field.
- Associate Professor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Associate Professor rank. Minimum 1 years' experience with curriculum development, assessment, and/or teaching in the health professions or related field.
- Professor: Must hold an M.D., D.O degree or equivalent terminal degree. Eligible for a faculty appointment in the CU School of Medicine at the Professor rank. Minimum 1 years' experience with curriculum development, assessment, and/or teaching in the health professions or related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated teaching experience, ideally related to EBMI content.
- At least one year of clinical practice after completion of training program.
- Demonstrated ability to apply evidence-based medicine in the clinical and educational setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of clinical education models and medical education curricula.
- Ability to cultivate relationships with people who enjoy teaching, who can inspire students and support the educational process and values of life-long learning of the CU School of Medicine.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE: Instructor: $18,750 to $37,500, representing an estimated 0.15 FTE salary support plus benefits. The final offer will be capped at $250,000 annually and will depend on the individual's current 1.0 FTE salary. [Similar ranges for other ranks.]
