"Part-Time Faculty - Geography"

Job Description

The El Camino Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty positions in the following subject areas for spring 2025:

• GEOG-2 (Cultural Geography)
• GEOG-5 (World Regional Geography)
• GEOG-6 (Physical Geography Laboratory)
• GEOG-7 (Geography of California)

Faculty job responsibilities include the assessment of learning outcomes to improve teaching and learning in achieving El Camino College's mission of institutional effectiveness, quality educational programs, and vibrant student support services.

Faculty assignments may include morning, afternoon, evening, or weekend hours. Dual enrollment, distance education, online or hybrid assignments are voluntary. For faculty interested in teaching online or hybrid courses, completion of El Camino College's distance education certification process is required or submission of a waiver with evidence of prior certification.

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in geography; OR
• Bachelor's degree in geography AND a Master's degree in geography, history, meteorology, or oceanography; OR
• The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualification(s) must complete the Request For Equivalency Form; OR
• Valid California community college instructor credential in appropriate subject issued prior to July 1, 1990 (per California Education Code 87355); AND
• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and of individuals with disabilities.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience teaching Geography.
• Experience using multimedia technologies in instruction.
• Demonstrated successful experience teaching at a community college.

Salary

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District. The beginning rate is $105.27 - $134.39 (lecture) and $79.79 - $101.83 (lab), per hour depending on education and experience.

Conditions of Employment

This is a part-time, temporary position for the spring semester, beginning February 2025. Assignments may include off-site locations. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), and transcripts. Candidates selected for employment must agree to be fingerprinted, submit a Certificate of Completion of the Tuberculosis Risk Assessment and/or Examination, provide proof of eligibility for employment in the United States, and present a valid Social Security Card upon hire.
