Part-Time Faculty: TV/Digital News Reporting l (Fall 2025)
Job Description
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University is seeking an individual to teach a section of the master's course BDJ 664.3 TV & Digital News Reporting I. Class meets on Mondays 8:25am-11:05am; Live Lab meets Fridays 2:00pm-6:00pm; Package Day meets Thursdays 2:00pm-6:00pm during the Fall 2025 semester (4 credits).
Course Description: This course teaches BDJ master's students how to produce broadcast news packages and also report those stories via social media and multimedia web stories. In addition, students take part in live TV reporting drills.
Qualifications
Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred.
Job Specific Qualifications: University level teaching experience is a plus. The successful candidate will have substantial experience in writing and reporting local TV news, both packaged and live. Since students gather information and report online and through social media, the candidate must have experience in storytelling across platforms.
Responsibilities
It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following: Developing a syllabus. Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes. Preparing for classes. Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others. Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades.
Physical Requirements
Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet. Ability to hold office hours on campus. Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment
Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
