Pay Range: $1,440 - $1,550 per credit hour

Job Description:
The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University seeks an instructor to teach VIS 502: AI for Creative Professionals on Tuesdays 3:30pm-6:15pm during the Spring 2026 semester (3 credits). This mixed undergraduate/graduate course introduces students to generative artificial intelligence tools used throughout the creative production pipeline, from story ideation and previsualization to content creation, post-production, and marketing assets.

Course Description:
This course provides a hands-on exploration of generative AI platforms used in commercial and narrative storytelling. Students learn to integrate AI tools into every phase of production: brainstorming story concepts, creating previsualizations, generating images, video, sound, and design assets, and completing polished short-form projects. The course also examines ethical considerations and the rapidly evolving role of AI within creative industries. By the end of the course, students will be able to design, produce, and refine AI-enhanced creative works while evaluating the impacts and responsibilities associated with emerging technologies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree required.
• Masters degree preferred.

Job Specific Qualifications:

• Teaching experience preferred.
• Professional experience in filmmaking, digital production, AI-assisted storytelling, or related creative fields.
• Proficiency with AI platforms such as Midjourney, Firefly, Runway, Stable Diffusion, or equivalent tools.
• Familiarity with Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, After Effects, and contemporary production workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Teaching assignments may include the following:
• Developing and/or updating the course syllabus, assignments, and project guidelines.
• Preparing and delivering lectures, demonstrations, labs, and critiques.
• Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours.
• Guiding students through AI-driven ideation, production, and post-production workflows.
• Evaluating student engagement, weekly exercises, preproduction portfolios, commercial and creative projects, and exams.
• Submitting mid-semester progress reports and final grades per University regulations.
• Encouraging ethical, inclusive, and responsible use of artificial intelligence in creative work.
• Providing departmentally sanctioned student evaluations.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
• Ability to hold office hours on campus.
• Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.

Tools/Equipment:

• Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
