Basic Functions
Essential Functions of Position
Provide quality instructions, create and maintain an environment which emphasizes teaching and learning and encourages free discussion of ideas, interests and issues.
Primary duties of part-time faculty members are related to curriculum and teaching; the assignment is divided between lecture and lab classes as determined by the department. Part-Time instructional faculty are required to be available to students outside of class.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Laboratory experience in human anatomy that includes work with cadavers.
- Experience in teaching human anatomy and physiology concepts at the undergraduate level.
- Competent use of computer, multimedia equipment, and software to foster innovative teaching and learning environments that increase student success and enrich departmental programs.
- Commitment to pedagogies that consider various learning styles and diverse cultural, ethnic, gender, socioeconomic, academic, and disability backgrounds.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Teaching experience in anatomy, physiology, and general biology utilizing instructional strategies that promote inclusivity and thus facilitate student learning.
- Laboratory expertise in Human Physiology and familiarity with computer-based physiology programs such as Biopac.
- Experience in developing distance education courses and teaching in an online format.
- Demonstrated experience using strategies and methods that enhance student learning and success.
- Knowledge of and experience using Student Learning Outcomes to support student learning.
Part-Time Faculty Salary
The starting credit part-time faculty rate from salary table 11 is $102.90 per hour-Lecture and $82.33 per hour-Lab. If you have a doctorate degree, the rate is $107.87 per hour-Lecture and $86.30 per hour-Lab.
Education and Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must possess the minimum qualifications for the discipline as approved by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors and defined in the Minimum Qualifications for Faculty and Administrators in California Community Colleges handbook.
- Master's in any biological science
- OR
- Bachelor's in any biological science AND Master's in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science
- OR
- The equivalent. A combination of education and other accomplishments that is equivalent to the above. (If claiming equivalency, attach a separate statement that presents the basis for this claim and submit supporting evidence, e.g., transcripts, publications and other work products.)
- OR
- Possession of a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Biological Sciences AND a Master's degree.
- AND
- Evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, culture, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff.
If the title of your degree as stated on your transcripts DOES NOT EXACTLY MATCH one of the degree titles listed in the minimum qualifications listed above, you must request an equivalency review and submit conclusive supporting documents at the time of application. Those documents include a completed SBCC Equivalency Crosswalk and a narrative synopsis of your educational background justifying equivalency.
