About the Opportunity

The College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University invites applications for a non-tenure track part-time faculty lecturer in Biological Sciences.

Northeastern University's College of Professional Studies Biological Sciences Program is accepting applications for part-time Lecturers that can teach the lecture and lab sections of Biochemistry. The Lecturer will teach night courses, in person, in our undergraduate program on our Boston campus. Screening and review of candidate application materials will begin immediately and will be ongoing.

The College of Professional Studies is one of ten colleges of Northeastern University, a nationally ranked private research university. The College teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students on campus and online in more than 90 programs.

Responsibilities

Part-time Lecturers are expected to work collaboratively with the Program Lead in the department to ensure consistent course delivery including the alignment of lecture content and lab activities, scientific skills development, and assessment of the curriculum across all lecture and lab sections. Lectures must use the College's learning management system, Canvas, to post syllabus, assignments, grades and other materials to communicate with students.

Qualifications

The Biochemistry course introduces students to the fundamental biochemical principles that underlie cell function. Candidates are expected to be well versed in all topics covered in the course. Topics include the structure and function of biomolecules, including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and nucleic acids, as well as the metabolic pathways involved in their synthesis and degradation. Emphasis is given to metabolic regulation and mechanisms of enzyme action. The laboratory introduces modern research techniques used in biochemistry. Topics include purification and characterization of proteins, kinetic properties of enzymes, isolation of high-molecular-weight DNA, and protein separation; DNA mapping; spectrophotometry; peptide mapping and sequencing; enzyme kinetics; and extraction, separation, and isolation techniques.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Biochemistry or a closely related field is required; biochemistry lab experience is required.
  • The department is seeking candidates with a history of effective teaching, including experience using active learning techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Biochemistry or a closely related field. Experience with Canvas LMS a plus. Prior teaching experience.
