This role represents a collaborative partnership between IU Indianapolis Campus Health and Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), fostering strong collaboration and integrated service delivery between 2 departments. The position will be operationally housed within Campus Health to ensure access to appropriate medical infrastructure, clinical oversight, and enhanced coordination of care between CAPS and Campus Health.
Job Summary
This position is for a specialized, licensed Physician responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric care, including the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of emotional, behavioral, and psychological disorders for the IU Indianapolis student body. The psychiatrist delivers essential psychiatric services in support of CAPS, whose mission is to provide a comprehensive continuum of clinical mental health care and supportive services that promote student well-being and academic success. In this capacity, the provider conducts thorough psychiatric intake evaluations to assess students' mental health needs, formulate diagnostic impressions, and develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provides ongoing medication management (medication check)
- Schedules appointments to monitor patient progress
- Assesses treatment effectiveness, and makes clinically appropriate adjustments
- Works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team, including counselors, medical providers, and other stakeholders to ensure coordinated, high-quality, and ethically sound care.
- Conducts comprehensive psychiatric and medical evaluations, including review of medical psychosocial histories, physical assessments as appropriate, and psychological testing when indicated
- Diagnoses mental health conditions based on clinical findings and established diagnostic criteria; develops and implements individualized treatment plans, including psychopharmacological interventions and supportive psychotherapy
- Prescribes and manages medication for mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders
- Provides crisis assessment and intervention for complex and acute psychiatric conditions
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary providers to review treatment plans and patient progress
- Analyzes clinical data and test results to inform diagnosis and treatment decisions
- Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in accordance with institutional policies, legal requirements, and best practices
- Compiles and maintains comprehensive patient records, including medical histories, treatment plans, and official health documentation, ensuring all records meet regulatory and institutional standards
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- Completion of an approved psychiatric residency
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
- Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Indiana
SKILLS
