Description
Position Term

Position Overview
The JHU Nurse Anesthesia Program is seeking a part‑time Simulation Faculty member (Temporary Learning Contractor) to support in‑person instruction and simulation‑based education during the Summer semester. Due to increased instructional demands, expansion of simulation activities, and the addition of a new high‑fidelity manikin enabling dual‑room simulation operations, additional faculty expertise is required to maintain high‑quality learning experiences and ensure student readiness for clinical practice.
The Simulation Faculty member will work closely with course coordinators and the simulation team to deliver clinically relevant, high‑fidelity anesthesia simulation aligned with the learning objectives of Clinical Practicum I and Clinical Practicum V. This position requires advanced clinical knowledge in nurse anesthesia, experience in simulation‑enhanced instruction, and the ability to support learners at different stages of clinical development.
Key Responsibilities Simulation Instruction & Facilitation
- Deliver in‑person simulation instruction for NR.404.720 and NR.404.724 during the Summer term.
- Facilitate realistic, evidence‑based anesthesia simulation scenarios using high‑fidelity manikins.
- Operate effectively within a dual‑simulation‑room environment, supporting concurrent sessions when necessary.
- Conduct pre‑briefing, scenario facilitation, and structured debriefing following best practices in simulation pedagogy.
Curriculum & Scenario Support
- Collaborate with course faculty to implement simulation activities aligned with course objectives and learner outcomes.
- Assist in updating or refining simulation scenarios based on programmatic needs and clinical standards.
- Evaluate student performance during simulation and provide actionable, constructive feedback.
Program & Operational Support
- Work with the simulation operations team to ensure proper setup, functioning, and breakdown of equipment—including newly purchased high‑fidelity manikins and related technologies.
- Help optimize scheduling and space utilization to maximize instructional efficiency and minimize disruption to clinical placements.
- Maintain compliance with program policies, accreditation standards, and safety procedures.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Active certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and active Maryland Nursing License.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent clinical anesthesia experience.
- Experience facilitating simulation‑based education in a healthcare or academic environment.
- Strong communication, debriefing, and learner‑support skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience teaching or precepting in a nurse anesthesia educational program.
- Familiarity with high‑fidelity simulation platforms and audiovisual systems.
- Training in simulation methodology (e.g., debriefing frameworks, INACSL Standards of Best Practice).
Time Commitment
- Part‑time, contracted for the duration of the Summer semester.
- On‑campus presence required for simulation sessions, preparation, and debriefings.
- Hours will vary based on course scheduling and simulation lab needs.
