- Welcomes patients, families, and visitors to the unit
- Directs patients, families, and visitors to and from the waiting areas
- Routinely check with patients and families to meet their comfort needs
- Assist with the nourishment needs of patients per nursing instruction
- Set up activities at bedside to assist with patient comfort, i.e., video games, toys, etc.
- Facilitate transfer process, i.e., supplies, equipment, patient belongings
- Facilitate discharge process, i.e., supplies, equipment, patient belongings
- Respond to patient call lights
- Maintain confidentiality and sensitivity when providing care and interacting with patients and families
- Stock bedside carts and blanket warmers
- Clean and prepare bays before and after patients have occupied
- Maintain supplies and orderliness of nutrition areas
- Assure availability and operation of equipment
- Monitor numbers and availability of unit specific equipment and order as necessary
- Clean stretchers, cribs, wheelchairs, and children's toys with Virex or Bleach per protocol
- Organize and place crib, stretcher, and wheelchairs to their designated slots as assigned by charge nurse
- Deliver stretchers or cribs to CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine when requested
- Assure that all patient beds, cribs, and stretchers are equipped with an oxygen tank for transports
- Transport or assist transportation of patients from inpatient unit to preop area: gather supplies, equipment, patient belongings
- Transport or assist transportation of patients from PACU to inpatient units: gather supplies, equipment, patient belongings
- Assist transport of patients from PACU Phase 2 to 2nd floor lobby
- Transport patients to off-site procedural areas i.e., UH Nuclear Medicine, CT, MRI UH OR/PACU
- Transport STAT blood samples from Mott preop/PACU to lab in UH when tube system is down
- Perform delegated clinical or laboratory procedures
- Monitor, set up and maintain the operations of clinical equipment.
- May monitor patient status, record and document vital signs.
- Stock and maintain inventory of specialized areas.
- May transport patients to and from designated locations.
- May assist with admitting and discharge procedures.
- May administer medications.
- Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and write
- Recent experience in an unlicensed assistive role in a patient care setting
- Demonstrated communication skills both written and verbal.
- Basic computer skills
- Course work in an Allied Health field
40 hours per week; 4: 10-hour shifts; 6:00am-4:30pm or 8:00am-6:30pm.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.
