Patient Educator
Job Summary
The Patient Educator position is designed to assist in administrative and technical work. The position will support the Georgia Cancer Center Tobacco Cessation Program and Cancer Prevention programs. This Patient Educator will assist with planning, implementation, and charting tobacco cessation progress within the electronic medical record (following all institutional guidelines and policies). The position will assist with scheduling tobacco cessation clinical appointments, coaching sessions (virtual/in-person), and data collection. A major component of this position will serve as a tobacco cessation counselor/coach to participants enrolled in the Georgia Cancer Center Tobacco Cessation Program.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in maintaining clinic workflow by working along with the tobacco cessation program coordinator, physicians, providers, and clinic staff
- Maintain correspondence with tobacco cessation patients through multiple methods of communication.
- Sustain a relationship with community leaders and the members of the community
- Facilitate weekly coaching sessions with tobacco cessation patients (using motivational interviewing).
- Maintain all required documentation in the electronic medical records
- Attend and participate in staff trainings. Participate in community tabling events.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Psychology, or related discipline and experience in community outreach, health care, research and/or social services.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Experience in motivational interviewing, substance abuse counseling, and or facilitation of large groups.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Detail-oriented
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases
