Payroll Analyst

Job Description

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Payroll Services Department is seeking an experienced Payroll Analyst to join our team. Reporting to the Senior Payroll Analyst, this role provides essential support in a deadline-driven, customer-focused environment. The Payroll Analyst will perform a variety of payroll activities such as processing, auditing, and analyzing employee pay to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with university policies and applicable regulations.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to deliver timely, accurate, and professional customer service. Key responsibilities include completing payroll cycles, ensuring accuracy and compliance, addressing employee inquiries, and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive payroll and HR data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the preparation and execution of payroll in Workday, ensuring accurate processing of employee wages, benefit deductions, and personal leave accruals.
  • Review and correct timesheet errors, reconcile payroll data, and process manual or off-cycle payments as necessary.
  • Assist with and manage termination payroll disbursements in a timely manner and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Proactively follow up with supervisors, managers, and employees on timesheet and payroll discrepancies to ensure accurate pay.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related inquiries, providing timely, accurate, and professional support.
  • Maintain confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive payroll and HR data.
  • Prepare and analyze payroll-related reports, including those for retirement, tax withholdings, unemployment compensation, and other expenditures.
  • Reconcile and remit union dues, retirement contributions, and health savings account contributions in accordance with established deadlines.
  • Monitor tuition remission integration for tax liability and notify employees of any associated tax implications.
  • Assist with specialized payroll actions such as employee tax elections, replacement/returned checks, and wage verifications.
  • Support international payroll processing through ADP Streamline.
  • Train and guide supervisors and managers on proper time entry and approval procedures.
  • Contribute to special projects as assigned, offering expertise and solutions to support payroll operations.
  • Stay current on payroll policies, procedures, and regulatory changes affecting payroll operations.
  • Recommend and assist with implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and compliance.
  • Draft payroll-related communications for the University, including training materials, policy updates, website content, and program notices for leadership review.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development through training, peer networking, and staying informed on industry best practices.
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests by providing accurate documentation and necessary support.

Qualifications

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Required Education: Completion of a formal diploma, certificate, or degree program lasting 6 to 18 months beyond high school.
  • Required Experience: 1–3 years of relevant work experience in payroll processing or payroll administration.
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Workday and ADP payroll systems is highly desirable. Payroll experience within a higher education institution is preferred.
