Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.

A Research Assistant/Research Associate position is available immediately to work on two dimensional materials for electronic and electrochemical devices.

Applicants should have experience in synthesis, characterization, processing, device fabrication, integration, and testing. We encourage candidates with broad range of experience in 2D TMDs.

The candidate will also be expected to have competence in characterisation techniques such as scanning probe microscopy, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Raman.

Overall responsibilities will include managing research project, generating high quality data and developing scientific techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute intellectually to the direction of the research on low power electronics within the project. It is expected that they will present their data locally at group meetings and seminars, and more widely at international scientific conferences. They will be expected to draft scientific manuscripts and to contribute to day-to-day supervision of Masters or PhD students.

The successful applicant will hold a PhD, or be near completion of a PhD, in Materials Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related area. They will be able to demonstrate skills in data presentation, both verbally and in writing. They will be committed to collaborative and interdisciplinary research and be able to demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will work in the 2D Materials and Devices Group under the supervision of Professor Manish Chhowalla and Dr Yan Wang. Applications from women, black, and minority ethnic candidates are welcome.

Successful candidates who have not yet received their PhD upon commencing the post will be employed on University Grade 5 SP038 as Research Assistants (34,610 GBP). Upon being awarded their PhD, their salary will be upgraded to Grade 7 041 (37,694 GBP) as Research Associates.
