Description:
The PEARLS (Patient-centered Explorations in Active Reasoning, Learning, and Synthesis) facilitator provides guidance of self-regulated learning and team dynamics to groups of 8-10 to first- and/or second-year students with the goal of students’ learning key concepts in biomedical science embedded in real patient cases. This is a part-time position requiring between 8-10 hours per week of student contact and faculty development.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitates PEARLS throughout the academic year, as needed.
- Attends faculty development meetings for PEARLS facilitators.
- Reviews weekly formative essay exams submitted by students in the facilitator’s group.
- Meets individually with students in the facilitator’s group for mid-course feedback and as needed.
- Completes end of course student assessments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or PhD in biomedical science discipline.
- Three years’ experience teaching medical students or other health professions students.
- Must demonstrate the ability to contribute to a multi-disciplinary educational environment and establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
- Must have computing experience and proficiency with MS Word and Outlook.
Preferred Quals Summary:
- Experience with Learning Management Systems.
