The University of Colorado Department of Anesthesiology Division of Pediatric Anesthesiology has an opening for a full-time Pediatric Anesthesiologist at the faculty rank of Sr. Instructor. The chief responsibility of the department is to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients having surgical operations and painful invasive and diagnostic procedures. The University of Colorado affiliated hospitals have top nationally-recognized physicians delivering the best possible anesthetic care and a full range of perioperative care services.
The primary clinical site for this position is the Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) in Colorado Springs, CO.
Key Responsibilities:
- Duties in this faculty position will include primarily clinical and occasional teaching and service responsibilities. Some of the specific responsibilities will be as follows: The attending pediatric anesthesiologist will personally provide anesthesia care 100% of the time. He/she will examine the patient before and after anesthesia, write pre- and post-anesthesia orders, confirm that the patient is ready for anesthesia before induction, manage the anesthetic period, and follow the patient for as long as is appropriate in the post-anesthesia period. The scope of anesthesia for this position includes most pediatric subspecialties including but not limited to pediatric surgery, ENT (including craniofacial), urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, trauma, gastroenterology, and acute pain. He/she should also be comfortable with regional anesthesia.
- The candidate will primarily perform these services in the operating room or in radiology and will take their share of in-house and pager calls. Candidates are also expected to contribute to the teaching needs of the Department and the School of Medicine primarily through occasional medical student and fellow education at the bedside. There is no expectation to contribute to the research missions of the University.
- The candidate must have a strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and experience in teaching Anesthesiology. To be considered for appointment at the rank of Sr. Instructor, the candidate will have completed ACGME fellowship training in clinical pediatric anesthesiology.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- All attending anesthesiologists must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado. All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiology ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board in both Anesthesiology and Pediatric Anesthesiology, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to a diploma of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesiology (MOCA) participation is required for all board-certified faculty.
- Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire: Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Colorado by effective hire date; All are expected to be either in the examination process of the American Board of Anesthesiologists ("board eligible") or a Diplomat of the Board, or to be holding certification of foreign training that is recognized as equivalent to its diploma by the American Board of Anesthesiology; Fellowship-trained in Pediatric Anesthesiology; Board certification in pediatric anesthesiology is highly desirable; Experience teaching Anesthesiology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership experience with a track record of collaboration and ongoing success.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong working and theoretical knowledge of Anesthesiology and Peri-operative Medicine; ACLS and PALS certification are required at time of hire, ATLS is required within one year of hire date.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary for this position has been established as $342,000. The Colorado Springs practice uses a clinical day equivalent (“CDE”) compensation model to determine total compensation such that variable pay is available for additional compensation of up to $178,344. The CDE model also follows a unique but very competitive leave program.
