Why your role matters

The Peer and Alumni, Senior Coordinator plays a key role within the Indigenous Student Success team at the Nura Gili Centre for Indigenous Programs, facilitating a comprehensive peer-to-peer and alumni program.

The role involves implementing programs and initiatives that enhance the Indigenous student experience at UNSW, with a focus on peer and alumni connections and networks. It facilitates and coordinates programs that complement holistic student success activities and align with the vision of Nura Gili and the University’s Indigenous Student Success Plan.

The position reports to the Deputy Director, Nura Gili and has no direct reports.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Develop and monitor year-round programs targeting student orientation, peer mentoring, alumni engagement, and intellectual workshops.
  • Coordinate social events and activities to foster student interaction, community, and belonging.
  • Build relationships with internal and external clubs, groups, and societies to create impactful student connections.
  • Promote and celebrate alumni and Indigenous student achievements through programs and events.
  • Analyse and evaluate programs and services, providing qualitative and quantitative reports for continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate student records in CRM, tracking enquiries and academic progress.

About You:

  • This position is open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants only. Confirmation of Aboriginality will be required.
  • Experience developing and implementing Indigenous programs that deliver positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Strong project and program management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Knowledge of legislation, policies, and university opportunities affecting Indigenous students in higher education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with attention to detail and the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRMs, and other computer systems; project management software experience is a plus.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team, while also taking initiative and working independently.
  • Willingness and ability to attend meetings, events, and functions outside core hours, including weekends, at regional, remote, and interstate locations as required.

Pre-employment checks including a NSW Working with Children’s Check are required for this position.
