  • Remuneration: Level 7 $113k + 17% superannuation & leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (1 day WFH per week)

Why your role matters

The Peer and Alumni Senior Coordinator plays a vital role within the Indigenous Student Success team at the Nura Gili Centre for Indigenous Programs, leading the development and delivery of a comprehensive peer and alumni engagement program. This position is responsible for implementing initiatives that enrich the Indigenous student experience at UNSW, with a strong emphasis on building meaningful peer connections and strengthening alumni networks.

Working closely within the broader student success framework, the Coordinator designs and delivers programs that support holistic outcomes for students and align with the strategic vision of Nura Gili and the University’s Indigenous Student Success Plan. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Nura Gili, this role operates without direct reports but requires a high level of collaboration and stakeholder engagement to drive impactful outcomes.

Specific accountabilities include:

  • Contribute to a positive and dynamic Nura Gili community, informed by culturally affirming values, experiences and shared aspirations.
  • With a focus on student peer relationships and alumni, develop and monitor year-round programs that include the implementation of workshops and initiatives that contribute to the Indigenous Student Success team objectives. Individual programs will target orientation and transition for first-year students, Indigenous student peer mentoring, Alumni connections and intellectual workshops.
  • Coordinate and manage a schedule of programs and social events to foster student interaction and their sense of community and belonging; events, for example, to include group lunches, excursions and Indigenous Nationals sporting events.
  • Build and foster working relationships with internal and external clubs, groups and societies to enable impactful connections between students accommodating a broad range of interests and locations.

About You:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing Indigenous programs and activities that result in positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Excellent project/program management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation and policies, and broader university opportunities that apply to Indigenous students in the higher education sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to create positive, vibrant and respectful relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and the ability to liaise effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a range of computer systems and applications, including Microsoft Office and CRMs. Project management software experience beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently.

This role requires the successful candidate to hold a valid paid Working with Children’s Check.
