POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions, Fordham University is seeking a talented, organized, and high-energy Pep Band Director to lead its spirited, student-based pep band. This part-time staff position oversees all musical, logistical, and administrative aspects of the band’s operation, working in close collaboration with the Fordham Athletics, the Department of Music, and other spirit groups. The Director will play a key role in building community, fostering school spirit, and elevating the game-day experience at Fordham.
About the Fordham Pep Band:
The Fordham Pep Band is a high-energy, student-based ensemble that performs at Fordham football, men’s and women’s basketball home games, select away games, and various campus events. Known for its crowd-pleasing repertoire—from classic hits to modern anthems—the band brings excitement to every performance. They work closely with the Fordham Cheerleaders and Dance Team to energize fans and support the Rams.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide musical instruction to band members at rehearsals and performances.
- Schedule and conduct one Pep Band rehearsal per week and others as needed during the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Organize and manage the Pep Band music library and select music for performances.
- Improve the Pep Band’s musical quality and help create a positive, energetic atmosphere at home contests.
- Ensure band members remain positive and professional during games in spite of demands and distractions.
- Travel with the band to select championship or postseason contests as directed by the Athletics Department.
- Maintain and organize Pep Band musical instrument inventory, and help maintain an organized and neat shared rehearsal space in the Band Room.
- Liaise with the Orchestra Director and Music Department faculty on initiatives to improve overall visibility and quality of musical performances at Fordham.
- Maintain and order band uniforms as needed to ensure appropriate attire for travel, practice, games, and events.
- Coordinate with marketing and promotions for a game day experience.
- Promote Pep Band at the annual Club Fair, ensure diverse pool of applicants, and hold auditions that are organized, well-advertised, and well-attended.
- Encourage a positive attitude whenever interacting with staff, faculty, and opposing teams.
- Communicate with Assistant Athletic Director on any and all issues in a timely fashion (within 24 hours). Ensure band members follow all ticket policies.
- Ensure appropriate attire for travel, practice, games and events.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience:
- Masters of Music OR Masters of Music Education
- Minimum of 2 – 4 years’ experience in conducting either athletic ensembles, wind/percussion ensembles or concert band at either the high school or college level.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Experience conducting and educating musicians at all skill levels, and be able instruct all wind, brass, and percussion players.
- Presence at all home basketball (men’s and women’s) and football contests
- Occasional presence at various other athletic events as requested by administration
- CPR/AED Certified or will to become certified once the job is accepted
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Minimum Salary: $/Hr. $16.50
Maximum Salary: $/Hr. $16.50
NOTE: Salary is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and skills.
