The Faculty of Science and the Leiden Institute of Advanced Computer Science (LIACS) are looking for a PhD candidate in Cryptographic Hardware and Design Automation.
Project Description
We are looking for a PhD student to work on Cryptographic Hardware and Design Automation. The project involves developing a domain-specific design automation framework for cryptographic hardware, focusing on mathematical knowledge and properties for hardware optimizations including algebraic, algorithmic, and hardware levels. The PhD student will be supervised by Nusa Zidaric.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct original research and proof-of-concept development, write research articles to form a thesis for a PhD degree at Leiden University, and participate in the education and supervision program of the Leiden Graduate School of Science.
Selection Criteria
The successful applicant should be a motivated university graduate with an excellent track record, holding a MSc or equivalent in Computer Science and Mathematics or related fields. Required skills include strong background in graph theory, linear algebra, finite fields and rings, digital hardware design, design automation, programming, debugging, and experience with computer algebra systems. Excellent communication, presentation skills, and English proficiency are essential.

Terms and Conditions
A full-time position for one year, extendable to four years upon positive evaluation. Salary ranges from €3,059 to €3,881 gross per month, with benefits including holiday bonuses and career development opportunities.
