PhD Candidate Designing Citizenship Education in Secondary Education
Job Summary: This position involves contributing to scientific insights on citizenship education and assisting secondary schools in shaping their programs through a national research project. The research follows educational design research principles to develop, test, evaluate, and share school-wide approaches for citizenship education in secondary education.
Responsibilities:
- Inventory opportunities and barriers for impactful citizenship education approaches.
- Collaborate with school leaders, teachers, and students to develop these approaches.
- Analyze data from observations, interviews, and focus groups on how schools implement the approaches.
- Analyze qualitative data and publish insights in international, peer-reviewed articles leading to a dissertation.
- Publish insights for the education field and policy.
- Present research at national and international conferences for academics, policymakers, and education experts.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A research master's degree in educational sciences, pedagogy, psychology, sociology, or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience or affinity with scientific research on the school's role in citizenship education.
- Experience or affinity with designing citizenship education.
- Strong skills in qualitative research methods, with willingness to develop them further.
- Good organizational skills for working on complex projects with multiple stakeholders.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills, with willingness to develop them further.
- Proficiency in Dutch for research execution, developing education, and communicating with school leaders, teachers, and students.
- Proficiency in English for writing scientific articles and giving presentations.
What the Employer Offers:
- A gross monthly salary between €3377 and €5377 (scale 10, HBO collective labor agreement).
- An end-of-year bonus of 8.3% and vacation pay of 8% of gross annual salary.
- 428 vacation hours per year for a 40-hour workweek.
