"PhD Candidate in Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's Disease"

Job Summary: For the CLOSE-PD study, a clinical trial on adaptive deep brain stimulation (aDBS) for Parkinson's disease, we are seeking a PhD candidate. This randomized study compares innovative aDBS with standard continuous DBS in 130 patients. The research focuses on the effectiveness, safety, and mechanisms of personalized neuromodulation, working with a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, technicians, and researchers.

Responsibilities: Coordinate and execute clinical research within the CLOSE-PD trial; guide patients; collect and analyze clinical and neurophysiological data; translate findings into scientific publications; contribute to the technical development of aDBS algorithms; and participate in their implementation in the clinic. There is opportunity for personal input, such as specific substudies or technological innovations.

Qualifications and Requirements: Background in medicine or technical medicine; affinity with neurotechnology, neuroscience, and clinical research; independent, analytical, and proactive attitude; good communication skills in both written and oral forms; ability to work in a multidisciplinary team; excellent proficiency in Dutch and English.

What the Employer Offers: A contract for 12 months with the intention to extend to a total of 4 years; salary scaled for PhD candidates (OIO scale: €3,108 to €3,939 gross based on full-time employment, depending on education and experience); vacation hours (190.4 hours per year for full-time employment); pension buildup; and various allowances including travel reimbursement.
